The South Terminal is at the south side of the airport complex. Drivers leaving the M23 motorway at junction 9 should go to the traffic roundabout and turn left. The terminal is clearly signposted.
Go straight ahead for Short Term and disabled parking which is close to the terminal building.
Bridges with moving walkways link the forecourt and dropping off points with check-in. Short Term car park users need to go up one level.
The Long Term car park is on the left of the terminal road.
Courtesy buses from Long Term car parks deposit passengers on the ground level. Use the lifts/elevators to reach Departures.
The check-in area is split into zones. Overhead TV monitors guide you to the zone and check-in desks for each flight. The zones are marked by overhead signs and are clearly visible from all entry points. Zone A starts at the left of the check-in hall.
There are also service zones after each check-in. They surround the entrance to passport control, security and the International Airside Departures lounge.
The UK and Channel Islands Departure lounge can be reached through Zone F.
Airline sales and ticketing offices are located close to the check-in desks.
Lifts, stairs and escalators lead to the mezzanine floor food and drink and shopping outlets.
Luggage Trolleys: Plentiful and free on the forecourt where porters are also available. Trolleys can also be found in the Short Term car parks and inside the terminal.
Toilets: At both ends and in the middle of the check-in area. Disabled access in most areas. Baby care facilities are signposted (look for the bottle or cot symbols). There is a baby change booth in Zone A. Shower facilities are available on the mezzanine floor - use the courtesy phone for soap and towels.
Pay Phones: Located mostly in the service zones close to the check-ins. Coin, phonecard and credit cards accepted.
Currency: Three Bureaux de Change. Travelex in Zone A, open 06:00-19:30, in Zone J/K open 24 hours and Thomas Cook in Zone F open 24 hours. The bureaux also offer limited banking services.
Cash Dispensers: Barclays, Midland and AbbeyLink machines opposite the International Departures security entrance in Zone G/H. There is an American Express ATM on the rail station concourse.
Information Desk: No desk in Departures, the main desk is in the Arrivals area. There are courtesy phones in various areas for specific airport services. The main information desk could be more conveniently located.
Smoking Area: None in the check-in area. Best bet is upstairs in the mezzanine floor catering outlets.
Special Assembly Area: Seating available opposite the entrance to International Departure lounge.
Postal Services: Mail box and stamp machine in Zone F. Full postal service on the upper mezzanine level.
Left Luggage: None in check-in, the nearest is in Arrivals next to Costa Coffee. Open 05:00-23:00 it costs £3.00 per item up to 12 hours and £3.50 for 12-24 hours.
The Bags etc, counter in Zone A handles unaccompanied baggage, luggage transfers to London Heathrow and sells bags and travel goods.
Food and Drink: Upstairs on mezzanine level in The Village.
Shopping: There is a news shop / bookstore, all other services on mezzanine floor.
Special Needs
The terminal is generally friendly to disabled people and those needing special assistance. Facilities include wide ramps, phones at height accessible to wheelchair users and good toilet facilities and reserved seating for disabled people in check-in areas.
Upper Mezzanine Level
The Village shopping mall is one of the most comprehensive in any UK airport. Major High Street names and some off-beat outlets too. There is even a bookmakers for those who feel lucky.
Toilets: Available on the mezzanine level, all with disabled facilities. Showers are available at the Arrivals end of the mezzanine where there is also a baby change room.
Pay Phones: In various areas throughout the mezzanine.
Currency: Thomas Cook Bureau de Change open 06:00 - 21:00 in the shopping area.
Smoking Area: Smoking areas in catering outlets.
Postal Services: Full postal service. Other facilities include instant passport photographs, photocopying and a business card printing machine. Access near Zone A.
Food and Drink: The food outlets are located around the perimeter of the shopping mall. Plenty of choice ranging from coffee and snacks to full meals.
Shopping: The Village shopping mall on the mezzanine level is one of the most comprehensive of any UK airport.
