The new USD$914 million International Terminal, opened in December 2000, is the biggest international terminal in the United States and has, effectively, doubled the size of San Francisco Airport.
Its facilities, which include upmarket restaurants, shops and state-of-the art business centers, had one writer comparing it to a five star luxury hotel. Well, no airport is ever that comfortable but the terminal's 2.5 million square feet of space is impressive and brings together 24 international airlines under its roof. It caters handsomely for the needs of business travelers.
Given San Francisco's geological situation travelers may also be grateful to know the terminal has been designed to withstand earthquakes measuring over 8 on the Richter scale.
